My hamster loves eating sunflower seeds. He loves it so much that when I feed him other things from its food packet such as popcorn flakes and red wheat, he would spit them out the moment he feels them in his mouth.
It seems like it’s really picky but as I was feeding it today, I realised that my hamster merely wants to have only the best. And then suddenly something struck me - we as Christians should be this way too. Not that we should be picky about food but be selective about what we allow ourselves to “consume”, such that we only desire God’s best for us.
Just like what my hamster does, whatever that isn’t the best - be it our friends, the books we read, websites we surf, television programmes we watch, our habits and the thoughts we have - we should throw them out. Only then can we open the door to and experience the abundant blessings that our loving and gracious God has prepared for us! =D
But earnestly desire and zealously cultivate the greatest and best gifts and graces (the higher gifts and the choicest graces). And yet I will show you a still more excellent way [one that is better by far and the highest of them all—love]. (1 Corinthians 12:31 AMP)
